News: Myvu iPod video viewer goes 'Made for iPod'
The MicroOptical Corp. on Monday announced its Myvu Made for iPod Edition, a new version of its personal video viewer headset for Apple’s iPod. coming in “late fall 2006,” it will cost $399.
The Myvu is worn like a pair of glasses and connects to the iPod video. It first debuted at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Calif. this past January, but MicroOptical has reworked the unit to include a dock connector interface and a thin battery pack that provides up to six hours of viewing time.
Inside the apparatus is MicroOptical’s patented display system, which provides a viewing experience comparable to a 27-inch screen six feet away, according to the company. Because of the shape of the headset’s optical bridge, you can continue to see over and under the screen.
The headset integrated noise-reducing earbuds. MicroOptical also offers an insert that allows viewers who need corrective lenses to have a custom prescription clip installed.
The original Myvu used an 3.5mm AV connector that plugged into the headphone jack on the iPod. In order to get Apple’s “Made for iPod” logo, the redesigned Myvu now uses a dock connector interface instead.
Also included with the package is a “pendant” that includes video controls, a travel case with room for the iPod, AC and automobile power adapters, extra earbuds and nose pads, and a user’s guide.
